Cristy attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where earned a bachelor of Science in Journalism from the Scripps College of Communications in 1996. While in college Cristy worked for a journalism professor that was also a local defense attorney and got her first taste of a courtroom. After a year serving as an Americorps Vista, a program akin to the domestic PeaceCorp, Cristy went on to the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder, Colorado and graduated in 2000. While in law school Cristy excelled in moot court competitions and represented a variety of clients in the immigration legal clinic. She was drawn to the fast-moving pace of the courtroom and enjoyed advocating for the interests of her clients.

While in law school, Cristy received a job offer from the San Diego City Attorney’s office and began her career as a prosecutor. During her first four years in the criminal of the City Attorney’s Office, Cristy learned aspects of litigation and negotiation and honed her trial preparation and courtroom skills. During her last year with the office Cristy had the opportunity to develop a civil advisory practice, with a position counseling the San Diego Public Works department.

In 2005 Cristy relocated to northern California. After a short stint at the Sacramento Child Advocates representing children in dependency cases, Cristy accepted a position with the El Dorado County Counsel’s Office. There she continued her civil advisory practice and represented Child Protective Services in dependency proceedings.

In 2006 Cristy returned to her career as a prosecutor with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s office where she remained until 2017. While at the District Attorney’s office Cristy litigated a variety of criminal misdemeanor and felony cases including domestic violence, battery, child abuse, drug crimes, worker’s compensation fraud, welfare fraud and white collar crime.

Cristy has shifted her professional focus from prosecutor to family law mediation and advocacy. In January 2017 Cristy joined the Miller and Associates team in the Folsom Office as an associate attorney.

In preparation for that transition Cristy has received extensive training in family law, mediation and collaborative practice. In 2011 she attended training in collaborative divorce and received her certificate as a mediator from the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. In 2013 Cristy attended Sharyn Kaplan’s 40 hour mediation training as well as a two-day intensive on crafting a successful mediation practice. In May 2016, Cristy completed a 40 hour training in mediation and conflict resolution with the New York and San Francisco based Center for Understanding in Conflict. Most recently, Cristy trained in family law practice during Garrett Dailey’s 2016 family law update and two-day intensive family law bootcamp. Cristy is excited to serve her clients as an engaging mediator and enthusiastic advocate.
