Reality television couple headed for child custody dispute

Reality television fans in California may be familiar with the popular VH1 show 'Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta" and its two stars Joseline Hernandez and Steven Jordan. Hernandez is scheduled to give birth to her first child in January 2016, and she says that Jordan, who is also known by the stage name Stevie J, is the father. Fans of the show and celebrity gossip columnists are unsure whether or not to believe the 30-year-old diva who has made up stories in the past to draw attention to the show and boost her career.

Things began to heat up between the two hip-hop reality stars when Hernandez demanded that Jordan take a paternity test. Tabloid reports indicate that Jordan has agreed to the request, but they also say that the 45-year-old rapper has some demands of his own. According to media stories, Jordan will demand primary custody of the child if the test proves that he is the father. Jordan claims that Hernandez would be an unfit mother due to her continuing alcohol consumption and drug use.

Jordan also says that he deserves custody because Hernandez will likely try to prevent him from seeing the child. Reports indicate that he may seek child support if his custody petition is successful. Hernandez did not immediately respond to Jordan's demands or accusations.

Family law disputes often become heated, and attorneys with experience in this area may encourage their clients to pursue alternative ways of resolving their differences if they wish to avoid the expense and public scrutiny of litigation. Mediation allows sensitive topics to be discussed in a supportive environment designed to reduce conflict and increase the likelihood of an amicable resolution, but attorneys may remind their clients that some degree of compromise will probably be needed for this goal to be achieved.
