The advantages of parental cooperation after divorce

California parents who are divorcing might need to work harder to get past conflicts for the sake of their young children. After divorce, children adjust better if their parents are able to maintain a cordial co-parenting relationship and put them first. This could mean placing trust in the other parent even when that parent does not seem to merit that trust. For example, the other parent might make changes to the schedule at the last minute. It is better to assume good intent than to escalate the conflict.

Uma Thurman's custody battle could be long and bitter

Uma Thurman has given celebrity gossip columnists in California and around the country plenty to write about in recent years. The 46-year-old actress called off her engagement to the businessman Arpad Busson in April 2014, and she is now involved in what analysts say is likely to be a prolonged and bitter court battle with the French financier over custody of the couple's 4-year-old daughter. A psychologist appointed by the court hearing the case indicated that an amicable resolution seems unlikely due to the animosity between Busson and Thurman.

Jodie Sweetin in child support dispute with ex-husband

People in California who follow the career of actress Jodie Sweetin may be aware of her 2016 divorce from her third husband. Now that former husband is asking for child support payments from Sweetin, although at the time of the divorce, neither was asked to pay support. They share physical and legal custody of their 6-year-old daughter.

The potential benefits of collaborative divorce

California residents who want to resolve their divorce in a civil manner may benefit from a collaborative divorce. Collaborative divorce uses both mediation and negotiation to allow a couple to work together in an effort to create an agreement that both sides can benefit from. In some cases, a judge will order that a couple first tries mediation or negotiation before agreeing to address the matter in court.

Deciding if a mediated divorce is a good choice

If a California couple decides to end their marriage, they may want to consider a mediated divorce. This involves having a third party who is neutral help a couple decide the applicable legal issues. While this type of divorce can help individuals save money, it is not right for everyone.
