Spousal support in California

If you are contemplating a divorce, spousal support may very well be an issue in your case. Whether you are the person who is seeking needed support or the one that may end up being ordered to pay, you most likely have questions regarding how the issue will be decided. Judges rely on formulas to hand down spousal support orders, and unfortunately, the resulting orders do not always reflect the situations of the people who are subject to them.

Prison time possible for reality star who owes child support

Celebrities in California should take note that stardom does not exempt someone from child support obligations. Steven Jordan, a cast member of "Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta" on VH1, was arrested on federal charges of failing to pay child support. If he is convicted, he could spend up to two years in prison.

Providing for children under 5 in California

Children of California parents who have just gotten a divorce tend to need extra love and attention to get through such a potentially traumatic event. While most children and parents eventually get through the transition relatively unscathed, it is important for parents to communicate on a regular basis. This may allow a parent to let the other parent know about any problems that a child may have, especially if the child is young.

Allowing minors to testify in California family courts

According to California Rule 5.250, children's participation in family court is determined on a case-by-case basis. Children are not required to participate in family court; however, they are not prohibited from participating either. If a child wants to participate, the court will take that and the measures required for protection of the child into consideration. If a child wants to address the court, the child's counsel, an evaluator, an investigator and a counselor recommending child custody must provide the court with any information they have.

He reportedly has several expenses that necessitate the monthly sum such as rent that costs between $40,000 and $60,000 and entertainment expenses that cost $80,000 a month. He also needs $6,700 a month to continue paying his personal chef and $2,500 for his personal trainer. Also included in the man's request is $2,500 per month for charitable donations.

How to end child support payments in California

Although their are several reasons why child support payments may terminate, they do not do so automatically. Therefore, an individual will need to contact a state child support agency representative to start the process of ending support. Support generally ends when a child turns 18. However, it may be necessary to provide additional support past that age for children who are in college or who have special needs.
